Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals the fragility of male spermatogenic cells to Zika virus-induced complement activation
On April 29, 2023, Pei-Gang Wang, Jing An, Department of Microbiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Capital Medical University, China, Yong-Tang Zheng, Key Laboratory of Animal Models and Human Disease Mechanisms of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and his team published a paper titled “Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals the fragility of male spermatogenic cells to Zika virus-induced complement activation” in Nature Communications. They revealed the fragility of spermatogenic cells, especially spermatogonia, to ZIKV infection. The kits[ELISA Kit for Complement 1q (C1q), SEA747Mu;ELISA Kit for Mannose Associated Ser......

New progress in research on retinal diseases
The retina is a visual nerve endings extending outward from the brain. Its function is to receive external light stimuli, convert them into physiological stimuli through photochemical reactions, and transmit them to the central nervous system to generate vision. Any retinal disease can cause visual impairment, and the degree of damage varies depending on the severity and location of the lesion. Common retinal diseases include diabetic retinopathy (DR), retinal vascular occlusion, retinitis pigmentosa, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma and retinopathy of prematurity. Recently, multiple studies have reported on retinal diseases, which may provide assistance for the prevent......

New findings on the mechanism of pyroptosis
As a lytic and inflammatory type of regulated cell death, pyroptosis is characterized by cell swelling, lysis, and the release of many proinflammatory factors, including IL1β, IL-18, ATP, and HMGB1. Dying cells activate pyroptosis through the following two main approaches: (i) GSDMD (gasdermin D)-dependent activation regulated by caspase 1/4/5/11 and (ii) GSDME-dependent activation regulated by caspase 3. Activated caspases cleave the hinge region between the N- and C-terminal domains of GSDMD or GSDME, releasing the segment with lethal activity and leading to pyroptosis. Few studies investigated the roles of other GSDM family members in pyroptosis, but GSDMA, GSDMB, and GSDMC also ha......

M2 Macrophage-Derived sEV Regulate Pro-Inflammatory CCR2+ Macrophage Subpopulations to Favor Post-AMI Cardiac Repair
On March 22, 2023,Guanwei Fan, State Key Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicine, Key Laboratory of Pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medical Formulae for the Ministry of Education, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, and his team published a paper titled “M2 Macrophage-Derived sEV Regulate Pro-Inflammatory CCR2+Macrophage Subpopulations to Favor Post-AMI Cardiac Repair” in Advanced Science. The results of their study provide evidence for the role of M2EVin polarizing cardiac-resident CCR2+macrophages to an M2- like phenotype, resulting in reduced recruitment of circulating CCR2+monocytes, and an improved myocardial tissue microenvironment for cardiac tissue ......

New findings in research on endometriosis
Endometriosis, characterized by the growth of endometrium-like tissue outside the uterus, is a common gynecological disorder in women of childbearing age and can cause pain and infertility. Its pathophysiology remains largely unknown, limiting diagnosis and treatment. Current treatment options are limited to pain-relieving hormonal drugs or surgical treatments such as hysterectomy or removal of lesions. However, the treatment has limited effectiveness and side effects. Recently, several studies have reported on endometriosis, which may provide help for the early diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis.1. A long-acting anti–IL-8 antibody improves inflammation and fibrosis in endometr......

Aberrant m5C hypermethylation mediates intrinsic resistance to gefitinib through NSUN2/YBX1/QSOX1 axis in EGFR-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer
Background:RNA 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modification plays critical roles in the pathogenesis of various tumors. However, the function and molecular mechanism of RNA m5C modification in tumor drug resistance remain unclear. Methods:The correlation between RNA m5C methylation, m5C writer NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase family member 2 (NSUN2) and EGFR-TKIs resistance was determined in non-small-cell lungCancer(NSCLC) cell lines and patient samples. The effects of NSUN2 on EGFR-TKIs resistance were investigated by gain- and loss-of-function assays in vitro and in vivo. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq), RNA bisulfite sequencing (RNA-BisSeq) and m5C methylated RNA immunoprecipitation-qPCR (MeRIP-qPCR)......
