EEV glycoprotein, LSDV (EEV126)

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a highly infectious and economically important viral disease, which is caused by Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV) under the genus Capripoxvirus and the family Poxviridae. It was revealed that the LSDV126 gene of field isolates contains a duplicated region of 27 bp (9 aa). In silico analysis of potential antigenic sites in LSDV126 revealed that LSDV126 variants with only one copy of the repeat lack a potentially important antigenic epitope, supporting its possible significance in cattle infection. Earlier, researchers had developed RFLP based assay targeting 27 nucleotide deletion in LSDV126 gene for differentiation of attenuated and GPXV. HRM and RFLP were evaluated by assays based on the LSDV126 gene deletion for differentiation. This gene has been demonstrated to be a better candidate for phylogenetic analysis compared to others, hence targeting this gene as diagnostic will provide additional advantages.
