NADH Dehydrogenase Ubiquinone 1 Alpha Subcomplex Assembly Factor 7 (NDUFaF7)
Anew mitochondrial protein conserved between Dictyostelium and humans that named MidA (for mitochondrial dysfunction protein A). This protein belongs to an uncharacterized conserved protein family . It shows high similarity to the human protein of unknown function LOC55471 encoded on chromosome 2. Dictyostelium and human MidA are highly homologous proteins. MidA is a mitochondrial protein involved in bioenergetics and its high sequence homology among species suggested the possibility of functional conservation between humans and Dictyostelium.A construct expressing the human protein fused to GFP was transiently transfected into HeLa and HEK293T cells, which were then stained with the mitochondria-specific dye Mitotracker Red. As shown in supplementary material Fig. S1, human MidA was also localized in mitochondria.
