Synovial Sarcoma, X Breakpoint 6 (SSX6)
SSX6 expression was weakly induced in a colon cancer cell line by 5 aza-2-deoxycytidine or trichostatin A, but expression was not induced in other colon cancer cell lines tested.
By searching EST databases for sequences similar to SSX, and by screening a placenta genomic library, Gure et al. (2002) identified several SSX genes, including SSX6. The deduced 188-amino acid protein contains an N-terminal KRAB domain and a C-terminal transcription repression domain, designated SSXRD. RT-PCR with SSX6-specific primers detected expression in a human melanoma cell line, but not in other melanoma cell lines or in any normal tissue examined.all of the SSX genes contain 10 exons, of which only 8 are utilized, and all span 8 to 10 kb. The open reading frame is contained between exons 2 and 9.
