Tripartite Motif Containing Protein 16 Like Protein (TRIM16L)
The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins are characterized by a conserved TRIM domain that includes a coiled-coil region, a B-box type zinc finger, one RING finger and three zinc-binding domains. TRIM16 is a 564 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms, designated TRIM16 α and TRIM16 β. Involved in keratinocyte differentiation, TRIM16 is expressed at highest levels in ovary, testis, mammary gland, skeletal muscle, colon, heart, placenta and small intestine. In addition to belonging to the TRIM family, TRIM16 is a member of a subfamily within the B-box zinc finger protein family and contains two B box-type zinc fingers and a B30.2/SPRY domain. is a 348 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that contains one B30.2/SPRY domain and belongs to the TRIM/RBCC family. TRIM16 and TRIM16L are encoded by genes located on human chromosome 17.
