Protein Phosphatase 1, Regulatory Subunit 14C (PPP1R14C)
Protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) is a signal-transducing phosphatase that influences neuronal activity, protein synthesis, metabolism, muscle contraction, and cell division. PPP1R14C is an inhibitor of PP1. Database analysis revealed the human ortholog, which encodes a deduced 165-amino acid protein. Human KEPI shares 91% identity with the 164-amino acid mouse protein. KEPI contains a conserved PP1-binding motif (RVFFQ) and numerous potential N-myristoylation sites near its N terminus, as well as several potential phosphorylation sites throughout the molecule. Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues revealed Kepi expression in spinal cord, heart, muscle, and several brain regions, but not in other tissues examined.Kepi immunoreactivity was predominantly associated with rat cerebral cortex membrane fractions.
