Translocase Of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 10 (TIMM10)
TIMM10 belongs to a family of evolutionarily conserved proteins that are organized in heterooligomeric complexes in the mitochondrial intermembrane space. These proteins mediate the import and insertion of hydrophobic membrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane.The TIMM10 protein contains 90 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected ubiquitous expression of 0.8- and 0.9-kb TIMM10 transcripts in adult tissues, with highest expression in skeletal and cardiac muscle.
TIM10 readily dissociates from the complex with TIM22 and is required to transport carrier precursors across the outer membrane; TIM12 is firmly bound to TIM22 and mediates the insertion of carriers into the inner membrane.
