Listerin E3 Ubiquitin Protein Ligase 1 (LTN1)
Like most RING finger proteins, RNF160 function as an E3 ubiquitin ligase. By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated human brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1998) cloned RNF160, which they designated KIAA0714. The deduced protein contains 1,112 amino acids. RT-PCR detected RNF160 in all tissues examined, with highest expression in brain and ovary and lowest expression in spleen.
Chu et al. (2009) identified mouse Rnf160, which they called Listerin. The 1,767-amino acid Listerin protein has a conserved lysine-rich domain at its N terminus and a RING finger domain at its C terminus. In situ hybridization showed that Listerin was broadly expressed in the central nervous system. Chu et al. (2009) noted that Listerin mRNA is ubiquitously expressed.
