Family With Sequence Similarity 120, Member A (FAM120A)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated myeloid leukemia cell line cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1996) cloned FAM120A, which they designated KIAA0183. The deduced protein contains 1,062 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected low to moderate FAM120A expression in all adult tissues and cell lines examined.
The deduced 1,069-amino acid FAM120A protein contains N- and C-terminal domains that share high sequence similarity with corresponding domains in FAM120C, and both domains contain 2 putative transmembrane segments. RT-PCR detected minor and major FAM120A transcripts in all tissues examined.
