Chromosome 6 Open Reading Frame 15 (C6orf15)
C6ORF15 expression in tonsils and skin; however, expression was not detected in primary keratinocytes, keratinocytes, or psoriatic lesional skin.
The deduced 325-amino acid human protein contains a predicted N-terminal signal peptide, potential O-glycosylation sites, and tandem repeats within a region showing approximately 50% homology to prion protein . Human and rhesus monkey C6ORF15 share 93.3% amino acid identity. Northern blot and RT-PCR analysis of monkey tissues detected expression in circumvallate papillae taste buds only. In situ hybridization detected high expression in monkey circumvallate papillae, as well as foliate and fungiform papillae of the tongue.
