Glucose Induced Degradation Protein 8 Homolog (GID8)
TWA1 has an N-terminal LIS1 (PAFAH1B1) homology (LISH)/C-terminal to LISH (CTLH) motif, which is found in proteins involved in microtubule dynamics, cell migration, nucleokinesis, and chromosome segregation. It also has a C-terminal domain similar to a C-terminal domain in RANBPM. TWA1 shares 99.5% amino acid identity with mouse Twa1 and is well conserved among mammals. Database analysis revealed TWA1 homologs in fly, plant, and yeast. Northern blot analysis showed ubiquitous Twa1 expression in mouse tissues. Western blot analysis detected a 30-kD TWA1 protein in Hela cells and several mammalian cell lines. Immunoprecipitation and gel-filtration analyses demonstrated that both proteins interacted with GST-fused human muskelin in a 670-kD protein complex in transfected COS-7 cells.
