Zinc Finger, DHHC-Type Containing Protein 17 (ZDHHC17)
HIP14 has a predicted intracellular DHHC cysteine-rich palmitoyl acyltransferase domain between transmembrane domains 4 and 5. Fluorescence-tagged HIP14L was expressed predominantly in the Golgi complex in transfected canine kidney cells. HIP14 protein is enriched in the brain, shows partial colocalization with htt in the striatum, and is found in medium spiny projection neurons, the subset of neurons affected in Huntington disease.
HIP14 localizes to the Golgi as well as to vesicles in the cytoplasm. Expression of human HIP14 results in rescue of the temperature-sensitive lethality in akr1-delta yeast cells and, furthermore, restores their defect in endocytosis, demonstrating a possible role for HIP14 in intracellular trafficking.
