F-Box Protein 27 (FBXO27)
Members of the F-box protein family, such as FBXO27, are characterized by an approximately 40-amino acid F-box motif. SCF complexes, formed by SKP1, cullin, and F-box proteins, act as protein-ubiquitin ligases. F-box proteins interact with SKP1 through the F box, and they interact with ubiquitination targets through other protein interaction domains.
The deduced 284-amino acid protein contains an N-terminal F box and a C-terminal F box-associated domain. FBXO27 also contains PEST-like sequences, which are associated with unstable proteins. Northern blot analysis detected a 2.55-kb transcript expressed predominantly in brain, heart, and kidney, with lower expression in liver and lung. A minor mRNA species of 2.2 kb was also detected in kidney and liver
