Tetratricopeptide Repeat Domain Protein 7A (TTC7A)
The tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) domain is defined by a degenerate consensus sequence of 34 amino acids. TPR domain-containing proteins, such as TTC7A, have diverse functions in cell cycle control, protein transport, phosphate turnover, and protein trafficking or secretion, and they can act as chaperones or scaffolding proteins .
The deduced protein contains more than 700 amino acids. RT-PCR ELISA detected low to intermediate expression in all adult and fetal tissues and specific brain regions examined.By analyzing genes located in a region of mouse chromosome 17 associated with abnormal iron homeostasis, White et al. (2005) cloned Ttc7a. The deduced protein contains 7 TPR repeats, each of which has a helix-snap domain and forms alpha-helix segments.
