Zinc Finger, RNA Binding Motif And Serine/Arginine Rich Protein 2 (ZRSR2)
In vitro experiments demonstrate that pre-mRNA splicing begins with the assembly of a multicomponent complex on the pre-mRNA. This complex, the spliceosome, contains 2 types of factors: small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs) and proteins.
Hatada et al. (1991) isolated the imprinted mouse gene U2af1rs1 by restriction landmark genomic scanning. This gene is related to the human ribonucleoprotein auxiliary factor required for RNA splicing. Kitagawa et al. (1995) isolated 3 human homologs of mouse U2af1rs1. One of these, U2AF1RS2, was mapped to Xp22.1 by fluorescence in situ hybridization. The predicted 482-amino acid protein is 92.1% identical to U2AF1RS1 and 75.1% identical to the mouse U2af1rs2 protein.
