RLL Motif Containing Protein 1 (RLLM1)
The putative 244-amino acid protein has a predicted molecular mass of 28.1 kD and contains a nuclear localization signal and a C-terminal coiled-coil structure. Fluorescence microscopy of HeLa cells localized C14ORF166 to the nuclear compartment with some labeled foci in the perinuclear region; however, C14ORF166 also localized at the spindle body during metaphase. Northern blot analysis detected a 1.1-kb transcript in most adult human tissues examined. Highest expression was in heart and skeletal muscle, followed by pancreas, liver, placenta, and kidney, and no expression was detected in brain and lung. C14ORF166 transcript was expressed at higher levels in fetal brain and lung compared with adult brain and lung, suggesting a potential role in development.
