A number sign is used with this entry because of evidence that susceptibility to multiple sclerosis-1 (MS1) is associated with variation in certain HLA genes on chromosome 6p21, including HLA-A, HLA-DRB1 , HLA-DQB1, and HLA-DRA, on chromosome 6p21.3.
By searching a region of chromosome 10 associated with multiple sclerosis, Goertsches et al. (2008) identified C10ORF27. The deduced 351-amino acid protein was predicted to be a transcription factor. C10ORF27 showed alternative splicing and was expressed in a range of tissues, including brain, thymus, and testis.By genomic sequence analysis, Goertsches et al. (2008) mapped the C10ORF27 gene to chromosome 10q22.1.
