Jumonji Domain Containing Protein 5 (JMJD5)
JMJD5 is a putative histone lysine demethylase that contains a Jumonji C (JmjC) domain. Using insertional mutagenesis with Blm (RECQL3)-deficient mice, Suzuki et al. (2006) identified Jmjd5 as a putative tumor suppressor. Jmjd5 knockdown by RNA interference increased the mutation rate in mouse fibroblasts and increased their tolerance to the DNA methylating agent MNNG, suggesting that Jmjd5 may function in DNA mismatch repair.
Hartz (2008) mapped the JMJD5 gene to chromosome 16p12.1 based on an alignment of the JMJD5 sequence with the genomic sequence (build 36.1).
