Forkhead genes are transcription factors distinguished by a characteristic 100-amino acid motif that was originally identified in Drosophila. Pierrou et al. (1994) identified 7 human genes containing forkhead domains, including FOXD4. FOXD4 is a single-exon gene, and they identified a TATA box in the promoter region.
By examining genes arising from intra- and interchromosomal duplications involving the ancestral chromosome 2 fusion site, Fan et al. (2002) identified FOXD4L1, FOXD4L2, and FOXD4L3. The deduced 416-amino acid FOXD4L2 protein contains a central forkhead domain.Fan et al. (2002) determined that FOXD4L2 is a single-exon gene, and they identified a TATA box in the promoter region.By genomic sequence analysis, Fan et al. (2002) mapped the FOXD4L2 gene to chromosome 9p11.2.
