Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 86 (CCDC86)

CYCLON; Cytokine-induced protein with coiled-coil domain

Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 86 (CCDC86)
CCDC86 encodes a deduced 360-amino acid protein with a coiled-coil domain in the C terminus and repetitive sequences, which the authors referred to as SP repeats, near the N terminus. The SP repeats are shorter in the human and rat orthologs than in mice. The protein has 3 potential bipartite nuclear localization signals. Its promoter has redundant IL3-responsive elements, which were confirmed experimentally.
Ccdc86 expression was also detected in activated mouse peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Immunoblots of HA-tagged human or mouse CCDC86 detected the protein in nuclear extracts. The nuclear localization was confirmed by microscopy, and the protein was shown to be phosphorylated.
