SLAIN Motif Family, Member 2 (SLAIN2)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated fetal brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (2000) cloned SLAIN2, which they designated KIAA1458. The deduced protein contains 612 amino acids. RT-PCR ELISA detected moderate to high expression in all tissues and specific adult brain regions examined. Highest expression was in adult liver, testis, and ovary, and lowest expression was in adult pancreas and spleen and in fetal brain.
By searching databases for genes similar to SLAIN1, Hirst et al. (2006) identified mouse and human SLAIN2. The deduced mouse and human proteins have 581 amino acids, contain serine-rich domains, and share 93.8% identity.the human SLAIN2 gene contains 8 exons and spans 75 kb. The mouse Slain2 gene has a similar structure.
