SEH1 Like Protein (SEH1L)
Bidirectional transport of macromolecules between the cytoplasm and nucleus occurs through nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) embedded in the nuclear envelope. NPCs are composed of subcomplexes, and SEH1L is part of one such subcomplex, Nup107-160.SEH1L shares 34% amino acid identity with yeast Seh1 and 30% identity with yeast Sec13.
SEH1L was loosely associated with the Nup107-160 complex biochemically. SEH1L depletion by RNA interference led to phenotypes similar to knockdown of other constituents of this complex, including delocalization of some nucleoporins from the nuclear envelope. All constituents of the Nup107-160 complex, including SEH1L, were targeted to kinetochores from prophase to anaphase during mitosis.
