POTE Ankyrin Domain Family, Member A (POTEA)
POTE8 gene has 14 exons and spans about 31 kb. The last 3 exons are untranslated.By PCR, Bera et al. (2004) cloned 2 full-length splice variants of POTE8 from normal prostate cDNA.The deduced 498-amino acid POTE8A protein has a calculated molecular mass of 56.2 kD. POTE8A has a single cysteine-rich N-terminal domain that is repeated several times in other POTE paralogs, followed by 5 ankyrin repeats and a C-terminal helical region.
The deduced 452-amino acid POTE8B protein has a calculated molecular mass of 51.3 kD. The POTE8B protein differs from POTE8A in that it has only 4 ankyrin repeats. In vitro transcription and translation of the POTE14 variants resulted in proteins with molecular masses in agreement with their calculated masses.
