Ts Translation Elongation Factor, Mitochondrial (TSFM)
The TSFM cDNA, which lacks 5-prime coding sequence, encodes a portion of the putative N-terminal mitochondrial signal peptide and a predicted 283-amino acid mature protein. The mature human TSFM protein shares 91% amino acid sequence identity with mature bovine EFTsMT and 29% identity with E. coli EFTs.
Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected an approximately 1.2-kb TSFM transcript in all tissues tested. Skeletal muscle had the most abundant level, followed by liver, kidney, and heart. Placenta, brain, pancreas, and lung had substantially lower levels. Skeletal muscle contained an additional, larger transcript that was also observed at lower levels in several other tissues.
