Never In Mitosis Gene A Related Kinase 9 (NEK9)
NERCC1 has a nuclear localization signal between the N-terminal kinase domain and RCC1-like domain, and it has a polyglycine stretch and a ser/thr/pro-rich region, which includes 2 SH3 domain-binding PxxP motifs, between the RCC1-like domain and C-terminal coiled-coil domain.
The deduced 979-amino acid protein has an N-terminal kinase domain, a central RCC1-like domain, and a C-terminal coiled-coil domain. The catalytic domain shares significant similarity with those of NEK1, NEK3 , and NEK4. The RCC1-like domain is a 7-bladed propeller made up of beta strands. Northern blot analysis detected expression of Nek9 in all mouse tissues examined, with highest abundance in heart, liver, kidney, and testis.
