KH Domain Containing, RNA Binding, Signal Transduction Associated Protein 3 (KHDRBS3)
The deduced 346-amino acid SALP-alpha protein has a calculated molecular mass of 38.8 kD. Its N-terminal half has a KH domain embedded within a STAR domain, and its C terminus half has a proline-rich sequence followed by a tyrosine-rich region, which contains a domain similar to the SRGY domain of RNA-binding proteins, and a putative nuclear localization signal. The deduced 271-amino acid SALP-beta protein lacks the C-terminal tyrosine-rich region and nuclear localization signal. Northern blot analysis detected a broad 2.1-kb band that likely corresponded to both SALP-alpha and SALP-beta in all tissues examined. Expression was highest in brain and skeletal muscle and lowest in placenta, lung, and liver. A 3.1-kb transcript was also expressed predominantly in brain and skeletal muscle.
