E2F Associated Phosphoprotein (EAPP)
EAPPencodes a phosphoprotein that interacts with several members of the E2F family of proteins. The protein localizes to the nucleus, and is present throughout the cell cycle except during mitosis. It functions to modulate E2F-regulated transcription and stimulate proliferation. The deduced 281-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of about 36 kD. EAPP contains several potential phosphorylation sites, and a shift in its apparent molecular mass following phosphatase treatment indicated that EAPP is phosphorylated. EAPP transcript in all tissues examined, with highest levels in heart, placenta, skeletal muscle, and pancreas, intermediate levels in brain, lung, and kidney, and low expression in liver. EAPP with or without the fluorescent tag was expressed almost exclusively in nuclei of transfected osteosarcoma cells.
