DNA Cross Link Repair 1B Protein (DCLRE1B)
DNA interstrand cross-links prevent strand separation, thereby physically blocking transcription, replication, and segregation of DNA. DCLRE1B is one of several evolutionarily conserved genes involved in repair of interstrand cross-links. The human and mouse SNM1B proteins share high similarity with one another, but less similarity with S. cerevisiae Snm1.The deduced protein contains 532 amino acids and shares similarity with S. cerevisiae Pso2 only in its N terminus. SNM1B-depleted cells showed an elevated rate of chromosome breakage.
SNM1B may be involved in homologous recombination repair of double-strand breaks arising as intermediates during repair of interstrand cross-links.
