Basic Helix Loop Helix Domain Containing Protein B2 (BHLHB2)
DEC1 encodes a basic helix-loop-helix protein expressed in various tissues. Expression in the chondrocytes is responsive to the addition of Bt2cAMP. Differentiated embryo chondrocyte expressed gene 1 is believed to be involved in the control of cell differentiation. Stra13 contains an N-terminal basis helix-loop-helix motif, followed by 4 glutamine residues, 2 putative alpha helices, a casein kinase-2 phosphorylation motif, and a third putative alpha helix. In situ hybridization of mouse embryos detected Stra13 only in decidual tissue and in trophoblast giant cells surrounding the yolk sac at 8.5 days postcoitum, but not in the embryos. Following day 9.5, Stra13 was expressed in a developmentally regulated pattern in nearly all embryonic tissues and organ systems examined.
