Calmodulin Binding Transcription Activator 1 (CAMTA1)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (1998) cloned CAMTA1, which they designated KIAA0833. RT-PCR ELISA detected moderate expression in adult brain and in all specific brain regions examined. Little to no expression was detected in all other tissues examined, including fetal brain.expression of CAMTA1 was highest in S and M phases and lowest in G0/G1 phase in synchronized neuroblastoma cells.
Both CAMTA1 and CAMTA2 deduced proteins contain an N-terminal DNA-binding CG1 domain, followed by a central transcription factor immunoglobulin (TIG) domain, 2 ankyrin repeats for protein-protein interactions, and 4 C-terminal calmodulin -binding IQ motifs. The CG1 domain includes a nuclear localization signal.
