Chromatin Assembly Factor 1, Subunit B (CHAF1B)
CHAF1B corresponds to the p60 subunit and is required for chromatin assembly after replication. The encoded protein is differentially phosphorylated in a cell cycle-dependent manner. In addition, it is normally found in the nucleus except during mitosis, when it is released into the cytoplasm. This protein is a member of the WD-repeat HIR1 family and may also be involved in DNA repair. The predicted 559-amino acid protein belongs to the WD (tryptophan-aspartate), or transducin, family. These proteins are generally characterized by 4 to 8 copies of a repeat of approximately 40 residues that often ends with a WD sequence (p60 has 7 copies of the motif). The p60 subunit also has a PEST (proline-glutamic acid-serine-threonine) box at its C terminus that is associated with proteins of short half-lives.
