Sulfotransferase Family 1A, Member 2 (SULT1A2)
Sulfotransferase enzymes catalyze the sulfate conjugation of many hormones, neurotransmitters, drugs, and xenobiotic compounds. These The gene structure (number and length of exons) is similar among family members. This gene encodes one of two phenol sulfotransferases with thermostable enzyme activity. Two alternatively spliced variants that encode the same protein have been described.
The gene spans approximately 5.1 kb and contains 9 exons that range in length from 74 to 347 bp. Exons 1A and 1B as well as the 5-prime portion of exon 2 and the 3-prime portion of exon 8 are noncoding. The locations of most STP2 exon/intron splice junctions are identical to those of a gene for the thermolabile form of PST in humans, STM, which maps to 16p close to the location of the thermostable STP1.

Organism species: Homo sapiens (Human)
