Transforming, Acidic Coiled-Coil Containing Protein 3 (TACC3)
In contrast to the highly similar coiled-coil regions of TACC1 and TACC2, the coiled-coil region of the TACC3 protein is more divergent from that of TACC1. The deduced 838-amino acid TACC3 protein contains a tyrosine phosphorylation site, like TACC1 and TACC2, and high amounts of serine, proline, and acidic residues, like TACC1; however, TACC3 lacks nuclear localization signals, suggesting that it is a cytoplasmic protein. Northern blot analysis detected a 3.0-kb TACC3 transcript in testis, thymus, and at very low levels in other immune system tissues.
TACC3 was strongly expressed in most tumor cell lines tested, the exception being Burkitt lymphoma. In mouse embryonic tissue, the highest expression of a 2.0-kb Tacc3 transcript was observed at day 15.
