Inositol Monophosphatase 2 (IMPA2)
Inositol phosphatases play a crucial role in the phosphatidylinositol signaling pathway. Yoshikawa et al. (1997) cloned myo-inositol monophosphatase-2 (IMPA2) from an EST located in the 18p11.2 region. The deduced 288-amino acid protein shares approximately 54% identity with IMPA1. It contains 2 motifs, designated A and B, that are common to other inositol phosphatases and are thought to be important in metal binding and in the catalytic activity of human IMP.
Northern blot analysis detected expression of a 1.5-kb IMPA2 transcript in many adult and fetal tissues; in brain, the expression is substantially higher in the subcortical regions, most prominently in the caudate.IMPA2 gene contains 8 exons spanning approximately 27 kb of genomic DNA.
