Members of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPR) family play important roles in signal transduction from the external environment to the inside of the cell.By searching a genome sequence database for sequences related to rhodopsin family GPRs, Sawzdargo et al. (1999) identified the GPR52 gene.
The predicted 361-amino acid GPR52 protein contains the 7 hydrophobic domains characteristic of GPRs and shares 71% amino acid identity with GPR21. Northern blot analysis revealed that the 3.5-kb GPR52 mRNA was expressed in the caudate and putamen regions of brain.
By its inclusion within mapped clones, Sawzdargo et al. (1999) mapped the GPR52 gene to 1q24.
