Forkhead box protein K1 is a protein encoded by the FOXK1 gene.Expressed both developing and adult tissues. In adults, significant expression is seen in tumors of the brain, colon and lymph node.Transcriptional regulator that binds to the upstream enhancer region (CCAC box) of myoglobin gene. Has a role in myogenic differentiation and in remodeling processes of adult muscles that occur in response to physiological stimuli.
FOX (Forkhead box) proteins are a family of transcription factors that play important roles in regulating the expression of genes involved in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and longevity. Many FOX proteins are important to embryonic development.
