G Protein Coupled Receptor 15 (GPR15)

Heiber et al. (1996) used sequence similarities among G protein-coupled receptor genes to discover a novel receptor gene. Using primers based on conserved regions of the opioid-related receptors, they isolated a PCR product that was used to locate the full-length coding region of a human receptor gene they named GPR15.

A comparison of the amino acid sequence of the receptor encoded by GPR15 with other receptors revealed that it shared sequence identity with the angiotensin II receptors type 1 and type 2, the interleukin 8 b receptor , and the orphan receptors GPR1 and angiotensin receptor-like 1. By fluorescence in situ hybridization, Heiber et al. (1996) mapped GPR15 to 3q11.2-q13.1.
