Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel Subfamily C, Member 1 (TRPC1)
TRPC1 belongs to the transient receptor potential (TRP) superfamily of cation channels. TRP cation channels are involved in diverse physiologic processes, including receptor- and store-operated Ca(2+) entry, mineral absorption, and cell death. They also function as sensors for pain, heat, cold, sound, stretch, and osmotic changes.
TRPC1 showed 38 to 40% amino acid identity with Drosophila trp and trpl. Northern blot analysis revealed that the predicted 810-amino acid protein is transcribed as a 5.4-kb mRNA at high levels in human fetal and adult brain, in adult heart, testes, and ovary, and at lower levels in fetal liver and kidney.
