Nucleolar Protein 8 (NOL8)
NOL8 has an N-terminal RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain and a C-terminal KOG4365 domain. Northern blot analysis detected a 4.4-kb transcript in skeletal muscle with little-to-no expression in 22 other tissues examined. NOL8 expression in 7 gastric cancer cell lines; all cell lines showed higher NOL8 expression than normal skeletal muscle. Immunoblot analysis with lambda-protein phosphatase demonstrated that NOL8 is phosphorylated.The deduced 1,168-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 132 kD and shares 83.8% and 70.7% amino acid identity with its mouse ortholog over the N-terminal and C-terminal regions, respectively. NOL8 contains a C-terminal nuclear localization signal and 3 predicted coiled-coil structures.
