A Kinase Anchor Protein 2 (AKAP2)
Using yeast 2-hybrid screening, Dong et al. (1998) isolated cDNAs encoding 6 isoforms of mouse Akap2, which they termed Akapkl because of its expression in epithelial cells of kidney and lung. The isoforms, which contain 671 to 885 amino acids, are generated by alternative splicing and the use of either of 2 translation start codons.
By immunoblot analysis of tissue fractions, Dong et al. (1998) found that Akapkl was abundantly expressed in lung and moderately expressed in thymus and cerebellum, but was absent in heart, cerebral cortex, and liver. Confocal immunofluorescence microscopy revealed that Akapkl accumulated in regions of the cortical cytoskeleton in association with F-actin (see 102610) in transfected human embryonic kidney cells.
