General Transcription Factor IIIC, Polypeptide 2 (GTF3C2)
GTFs assemble in a complex on the DNA promoter and recruit the RNA polymerase. GTF3C family proteins are essential for RNA polymerase III to make a number of small nuclear and cytoplasmic RNAs, including 5S RNA, tRNA, and adenovirus-associated (VA) RNA of both cellular and viral origin. Transcription by RNA polymerase III is enhanced during viral infection by the expression of immediate early proteins of adenovirus and pseudorabies virus. The deduced GTF3C2 protein contains 924 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected GTF3C2 expression in all 16 human tissues examined; expression was moderate in lung, skeletal muscle, kidney, ovary, and colon and low in heart, brain, placenta, liver, pancreas, spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, small intestine, and peripheral blood leukocytes.
