Small Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein Polypeptide D1 (SNRPD1)

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein Sm D1 is a small nuclear ribonucleoprotein that belongs to the SNRNP core protein family. The protein may act as a charged protein scaffold to promote SNRNP assembly or strengthen SNRNP-SNRNP interactions through nonspecific electrostatic contacts with RNA.A clone was obtained that encoded a predicted 357-amino acid protein with 9 Gly-Arg repeats at its carboxy terminus similar to regions in the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear proteins EBNA-1 and EBNA-2, as well as the yeast transcription factor SNF2 .Lehmeier et al. (1994) showed that the D1 amino acid sequence is 29% identical to D3 and less than 15% identical to D2. The authors also showed that sera from 3 patients with lupus erythematosus detected the D1 and D3 components twice and the D2 component 3 times.
