High Mobility Group Nucleosome Binding Domain Containing Protein 2 (HMGN2)

High mobility group nucleosomal binding protein 2(HMGN2) is an evolutionarily conserved non-histone protein found in the nuclei of higher eukaryotes. The protein is thought to be involved in the regulation of chromatin structure and transcriptional activation of mammalian genes.

Lehtonen et al (1998) have reported that the HMGN2 protein shows developmental regulation during organogenesis in mice. Gene expression is found in differentiating tissue regions and appears to be down-regulated in mature structures. Mohamed et al (2001) have reported that HMGN2 protein is a constitutive component of mouse oocytes and embryonic chromatin and maintains the timing of early embryonic development in the mouse.
