Complement Component 3c (C3c)

C3c is part of the Complement Component C3. C3b is cleavage of C3, which plays an important role in both the classical and alternative pathways of complement. After activation, C3b is gradually converted to iC3b. Then, iC3b is slowly cleaved (possibly by factor I) to form C3c (beta chain + alpha' chain fragment 1 + alpha' chain fragment 2).

Decreased C3 may be associated with acute glomerulonephritis, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, immune complex disease, active systemic lupus erythematosis, and generalized autoimmune processes.
