Retinal Neovascularization (RN)

"Retinal Neovascularization" is a descriptor in the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus. Descriptors are arranged in a hierarchical structure, which enables searching at various levels of specificity. Retinal Neovascularization Secondary to Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy Characterized by Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography.  Retinal neovascularization is the hallmark of the proliferative stage of diabetic retinopathy and is a major cause of vision loss in diabetes. This chapter discusses our current knowledge regarding the mechanisms underlying retinal neovascularization in diabetic retinopathy, with a focus on the critical role played by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
