Asthma

Asthma is a common long term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs. It is characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction, and bronchospasm. Asthma is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.Environmental factors include exposure to air pollution and allergens.Other potential triggers include medications such as aspirin and beta blockers.

Asthma remains an area of considerable unmet medical need. Airway inflammation and remodeling in chronic asthma are characterized by airway eosinophilia, hyperplasia of goblet cells and smooth muscle, and subepithelial fibrosis. BALB/c mice, after intraperitoneal ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization is the common used asthma model. Animal model for asthma have been used for research of the development of safe and efficacious new asthma drugs.
