RBL-2H3

RBL-2H3 cell line is a widely used rat basophilic leukemia cell line that was derived from a mast cell tumor in a 6-8 week old male Wistar rat. These cells are commonly used in research related to immunology, allergy, and inflammation due to their ability to degranulate in response to stimuli such as antigens, allergens, and inflammatory mediators.

RBL-2H3 cells exhibit characteristics of mast cells, including the presence of granules containing histamine and other inflammatory mediators. They can be stimulated to release these mediators upon cross-linking of high-affinity IgE receptors (FcεRI) on their cell surface, making them a valuable model for studying allergic and inflammatory responses. Additionally, RBL-2H3 cells are used to investigate signal transduction pathways, membrane trafficking, and gene expression changes associated with mast cell activation.

RBL-2H3 cell line has contributed significantly to our understanding of mast cell biology and the mechanisms underlying allergic reactions and inflammatory diseases. Researchers use these cells to explore the role of mast cells in immune responses, allergic disorders, and the development of new therapeutic approaches targeting mast cell activation and degranulation.
