Torsin 2A (TOR2A)

The N terminus of preprosalusin has a 26-amino acid signal peptide, and the C terminus contains 2 tandem salusins, salusin-beta, which has 20 amino acids, and salusin-alpha. Salusin-alpha is found in 2 forms: a 28-amino acid form in which gly29 is modified to NH(2) by peptidylglycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase (PAM), and a 29-amino acid form that retains gly29, which the authors designated salusin-alpha(29gly).

Expression was most abundant in bone marrow, moderate in endocrine glands and brain, and very low in cardiac and skeletal muscle. Preprosalusin was expressed at lower levels than TOR2A in most tissues, but it was expressed at higher levels than TOR2A in cultured vascular endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells.
