G Protein Coupled Receptor 133 (GPR133)
The adhesion G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), including GPR133, are membrane-bound proteins with long N termini containing multiple domains. GPCRs, or GPRs, contain 7 transmembrane domains and transduce extracellular signals through heterotrimeric G proteins
GPR133 to be a novel gene associated with adult height. Bjarnadottir et al. (2004) partially cloned GPR133 in silico, based on homology to known members of the GPCR gene family. EST database analysis suggested significant GPR133 expression in human brain, colon, and testis, and in mouse brain. By database analysis, Bjarnadottir et al. (2007) identified a putative GPR133 splice variant in fetal tissue, lung, spleen, and testis.
