Zinc Finger Protein 449 (ZNF449)
ZNF449 encodes a 518-amino acid Kruppel-like zinc finger protein that contains an N-terminal SCAN (LER) domain and 7 C2H2 zinc finger motifs at the C terminus. The evolutionarily conserved SCAN domain is an approximately 113-residue leucine-rich region that mediates homo- and heterodimerization of SCAN family members. RT-PCR analysis of adult human tissues showed ubiquitous expression of ZNF449. Immunohistochemistry analysis of HeLa cells transfected with tagged ZNF449 demonstrated a nuclear localization.Luo et al. (2006) determined that ZNF449 contains 5 exons spanning approximately 18.6 kb. By genomic sequence analysis, Luo et al. (2006) mapped the ZNF449 gene to chromosome Xq26.3, adjacent to ZNF75, another SCAN family gene.
